Council Bulky Waste Collection in Derby & Derbyshire — Prices by Council
In Derbyshire, bulky waste collections aren't run by the county. Each district or city council runs its own, with its own prices and rules. Here's what the main councils charge, and when a private collection makes more sense.
Prices by council

| Erewash Borough Council | Ilkeston, Long Eaton | £36 for up to 5 items, then £8 each. Foam seating and electricals: £26 for up to 3, then £10 each |

- Kerbside only. You put items outside your home early on the day: by 6am in Amber Valley, 6.30am in Derby and Erewash, and 7am in Chesterfield. The crew won't come inside.
- No set time. Derby, for example, says it can't give an exact collection time.
- Set days. Many councils collect on fixed days, and some use separate vehicles for sofas, electricals and other items.
- No refunds if someone else takes the items before the council arrives, at least at some councils.
- Limits on what they take. Garden waste, building rubble and hazardous items usually aren't collected.
Can the council collect from inside?
Usually not. Derby City Council says that if you can't get items outside and have no one to help, you can email its Streetpride team for a quote to collect from inside your home. Chesterfield says it won't take waste from inside your property at all, even from a block of flats or a garage.
Council or private collection?
A council collection is often the cheapest choice for a few items you can carry outside yourself. A private licensed collection usually makes more sense when:
- items are upstairs or you can't carry them out
- you need them gone quickly, for example before a move or a new tenant
- you have more items than the council limit, or things the council won't take, like rubble or garden waste
