Raynesway Tip Derby — Booking, Opening Times & Rules

Raynesway is Derby's main household recycling centre, run by Derby City Council, and it works differently from the county tips. Most days you have to book, there's a limit on how often you can go, and there's a reuse shop on site. Here's how it all works.

How booking works

Monday to Saturday, every visit must be booked in advance, or you'll be turned away. You can book online through the council's MiPermit system or by calling Derby Direct, and you should bring your booking confirmation. You must arrive in the vehicle you booked with.

On Sundays you can just turn up, but expect queues. The council says the busiest time is 10.30am to 4pm, so go earlier or later if you can.

Each household gets 12 visits a year, and the count resets on 1 January. Unused visits don't roll over, and if you book more than one visit in a day, each one counts. If you're clearing a whole house, that limit can run out fast.

What Raynesway takes, and the limits

Raynesway accepts most household waste and recycling, including furniture, mattresses, electricals, garden waste and paint. Some things are limited:

ItemLimit
Fridges and freezersOne per visit, because of a national shortage of fridge recycling capacity
Rubble, concrete, soil or turfUp to 100kg per visit (about four 25kg sacks)
Plus one of these per visit1 to 2 bathroom items, or 1 to 2 windows or doors, or a small amount of plasterboard (no whole sheets), or a small amount of wood (no more than 2 damaged fence panels), or carpet from one room
Asbestos (bonded, from minor repairs)Up to 3 sheets per year. Tell staff when you arrive
Pet litter2 bags

It won't accept business or trade waste (including waste left by a tradesperson working at your home), sheds, fencing or decking being taken down, kitchen units, fitted wardrobes or whole bathroom suites, branded gas bottles like Calor, or amounts that look too big to come from one household.

Reuse Raynesway shop

There's a reuse shop on site, run by HW Martin for the council, selling donated furniture, tools, toys, books and electricals. Since 30 March 2026 it's been open Monday to Saturday, 1pm to 5pm. You don't need to book just to browse or buy: tell staff at the gate you're going to the shop. To donate items or drop off waste, you still need a booked slot (except on Sundays).

The council bulky waste collection

If you can't get to Raynesway, Derby City Council will collect bulky items from outside your home. It costs £38.85 for up to three items, £45.69 for four, £51.95 for five or £57.29 for six, and fridges or freezers are £20 each. Items must be out by 6.30am on collection day, and the council can't give you an exact time. If you can't get items outside, the council will quote to collect from inside your home.

When to use a collection instead

Raynesway needs booking most days, opens only in the afternoon from Tuesday to Friday, and limits you to 12 visits a year. For a full house or garage clearance, or if you don't have a car, a licensed collection is usually quicker. Remember: anyone you pay to take your waste can't take it to Raynesway, so make sure they're a licensed waste carrier.
